Volunteering
A Little Time: If you want to make a difference, In the theme and scheme of things, If you want to be a doer, Not just a player of life's games, We're not asking for your money, Wouldn't accept a cryin' dime, What we need from you most of all, Is a little of your time - Gene Brown, Red Bluff CA
Overview
Person Memorial Hospital has a strong and vital volunteer program. They serve the hospital without remuneration finding that in helping others they help themselves. They serve with compassion, respect and care and are recognized by their cheerful smile and willingness to help. Volunteers are needed in many areas of the hospital. They serve in areas such as the Gift Shop, friendly visitors in our surgical waiting area, Activities in our Extended Care Unit, and they run a Lifeline service that aids people to stay at home longer. Volunteers demonstrate a desire to contribute to the benefit and welfare of the community by helping others; they are one of the hospital's greatest public relations assets.
Volunteer Qualifications
A sincere desire to help, relatively good health, and a willingness to donate time are the needed qualifications. Special talents or skills, although helpful, are not required. Our Volunteers are persons of all educational levels and work backgrounds. Everyone is unique and has something special to contribute. Volunteers provide services that supplement the basic, essential staff functions. In addition, they add to the comfort, care, and happiness of our patients and guests.
How to Volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering, please call Jo Mooney, Auxiliary at 336-599-2121, ext.731, or email at Tammy.Tuck@LPNT.net.
Orientation
All volunteers go through an orientation program, including background check and drug screening. In addition to a tour of the hospital, volunteers are given a brief overview of procedures in their assigned area.
Donations
The Volunteer program requires $5 annual dues and holds a successful Lights of Love project in December. Funds earned through annual dues, volunteer projects and the Gift Shop are used to provide health care scholarships, educational programs that promote good health practices, and various department wishes. The auxiliary welcomes and encourages monetary and book donations. Monetary contributions may be in memory of a loved one or a donation from an individual, civic, or church group. Books and magazines are made available to our patients and guests for taking and returning.

They give their time and talents to make a difference in the lives of the patients and residents of our hospital as well as the citizens of our county and surrounding areas. They are recognized by their cheerful smile, display of compassion, respect and willingness to help. Their contributions make our hospital a better place for our community. We feel the volunteer staff is an important entity to the successful operation of the hospital.
